Ewon and IXON: structured industrial remote access

Industrial platforms such as Ewon or IXON are designed around remote access, machine connectivity and, depending on the product range and services, additional cloud features. They are particularly suitable for machine builders and integrators who want to manage a fleet of machines and equipment through a dedicated industrial solution.

They make particular sense when remote access is part of day-to-day machine operation and the service platform is used regularly.

4G router: flexible, but requires integration

An industrial 4G router provides cellular connectivity and numerous network functions. It is an excellent technical building block when the integrator wants to build and manage their own network architecture: VPN, routing rules, users, security and possibly the manufacturer’s cloud service.

This flexibility also requires more configuration. The router itself does not necessarily provide a complete remote maintenance workflow.

RescueLAN: designed for occasional remote access

RescueLAN takes a different approach: providing a simple way to access equipment when remote maintenance is needed, without using the customer’s Internet connection. The 4G/LTE connection is integrated into its operating principle, and remote access is opened on demand.

The no-monthly-subscription model is particularly suited to equipment that only requires occasional remote access, where paying continuously for availability would make little sense compared with actual usage.

How should you decide?

For a machine connected every day with extensive cloud services, a complete industrial platform may be the natural choice. To build a customised network architecture, a 4G router offers great freedom. For occasional remote maintenance where simplicity and independence from the customer’s network matter, RescueLAN is designed to minimise the steps required to connect.

The choice should therefore be based on the operating scenario, not only on the hardware price.
